Customization

Settings is organized into four panes: Appearance, Sessions, Agents, and LSP. The items on this page live in the Appearance pane.

Theme color

The Liquid Glass theme color is set from Settings. Eight presets are available, and you can also pick a custom HEX value or use the color picker.

A special Ghostty preset reads background from ~/.config/ghostty/config. Text color (foreground) adapts automatically:

• Ghostty preset: follows Ghostty’s foreground setting
• Other presets: chooses white or black based on the theme color’s luminance

The toolbar above a browser tab follows the same theme color, rather than the plain macOS material it used before.

Glass opacity

The Glass section of the Appearance pane controls how transparent the window is. Under its opacity slider sits Apply opacity to cell backgrounds, off by default.

Left off, the opacity applies to the window background only, and any cell with an explicit background color stays fully opaque. An agent CLI’s prompt block, Neovim, or tmux then renders as an opaque slab inside an otherwise transparent window. Turned on, the same opacity reaches those cells and the whole terminal reads as one surface.

The switch applies to terminals that are already open, so there is nothing to restart.

Calyx writes this as Ghostty’s background-opacity-cells and keeps that key under its own management. Setting it in ~/.config/ghostty/config still has no effect: this switch is the way to change it.

Reduce transparency

Calyx’s window chrome is one continuous sheet of glass. The titlebar, tab bar, sidebar, and terminal share a single surface, with no seams or hairlines drawn between them.

Turning on Reduce transparency in System Settings under Accessibility → Display makes that whole sheet opaque, titlebar included, and drops the background gradient. The sidebar and the pane beside it then sit flush, with no line between them.

Ghostty config compatibility

Calyx reads the Ghostty config file at ~/.config/ghostty/config. Most keys hot-reload on save. window-width and window-height apply to newly created windows. Restored windows keep their saved size.

Some keys that conflict with the Liquid Glass UI are overridden by Calyx and won’t take effect.

Calyx-managed keys

These are managed by Calyx to keep the Glass UI consistent. The full current list is shown in Settings under Ghostty Config Compatibility. background-opacity-cells is the one you can still set yourself, from its own switch in Settings; see Glass opacity.

Keybind actions

keybind lines in the Ghostty config work in Calyx. Alongside standard terminal actions (new_tab, new_split, goto_split, goto_tab, toggle_fullscreen, and so on), these app-level actions are supported:

Clipboard paste confirmation

Calyx prompts before pasting potentially unsafe clipboard content. The behavior follows Ghostty’s clipboard-paste-protection setting. See Security & notifications for details.
